JK Rowling Brings the Magic
The First 'Fantastic Beast' movie came out in November 2016 and I recently rented it on Amazon. My expectations were low because there are too many Harry Potter movies and the backstory is rich and over played. It's honestly overwhelming how much depth it has. Rowling is a magical machine nonetheless and has the midas touch when it comes to making these fantasy films/books. I loved the first one so much I had to watch the 2nd one and now I'm a sucker for the franchise all over again. This new one has been slammed with negative reviews and had a whopping $200 budget. It grossed less than the first because the critics gave it bad reviews. Still both films a massed a fortune all over again.
Wizardworld Franchise Brings the Holiday Cheer
There are holiday movies out and all of them are remakes: 'Wreck it Ralph 2,' 'Grinch (remake)', 'Nutcracker 2018.' All of them I wanted to see and I'm tired of supporting un-original remakes. But the production studios make a fortune remaking stuff because they don't need to spend anything on marketing because everyone knows what they already are. Before deciding to see 'The Crimes of Grindelwarld' I watch and read a ton of reviews on it. The most interesting part is the character 'Credense Barebone' played by Ezra Miller. As an audience trying to figure out who 'Credense' is has been part of the journey in developing the franchise. I have my theories who he is but I'm not going to spoil it. Okay I think he's related to Lord Valdamort. Just spoiled it.
The Experience Was Better Than the Themepark
Another thing I have to touch on is the subtle homosexuality between two of the wizards and 'Jonny Deeps' character which is: 'Grindelwarld.' Ever since 'The Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise Deep has been too type casted. Every major franchise wants him to play their weird character and he'll play a transvestite clown for millions of dollars (who wouldn't). It's off putting and overplayed casting Johnny like that. So at first I didn't want to see it because he's over casted. But after watching it I enjoyed his performance more than I thought I did. And I have not seen Deep in something I enjoyed since 'Edward Scissorhands' came out 20+ years ago. I was pleasantly surprised by the film and can't wait to see more developing backstory with its homosexual wizardry and wtf 'Credense' backstory is. Cinema is hit or miss these days-- this one is best served with unbuttered popcorn and a diet coke. Let's poison ourselves slowly while we watch remakes.
