Hi blogger community, my name is Gina Hogrefe-- yes you can google me and there is not too many Gina Hogrefe's out there. I am totally new to this site so excuse my errors. But I want to be as transparent as possible, because I am trying to be a vulnerable artist in the internet world and the world at large.
I would like to write about a book I am reading at the moment called: "Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?" by Seth Godin. The book is about how art is not just a piece of work- art is creative, passionate, and personal. Moving beyond how and what we think an artist is. A Linchpin is someone that cares about humanity, is an artist, and a leader in the marketplace. Linchpins mark their own stamp upon events. I like the part in the book that talks about emotional labor being work you do that involves feelings (producing generosity and exposing creativity).
Interesting enough there are some sociology aspects to the book, because there's emphasis that society in the work place has been taught to follow orders and this is reference to "cog in the machine." This strikes a cord in my heart because, I felt my creativity in school was limited by tests and being measured by grades. Any who a Linchpin is someone that is indispensable, because they work for heart and soul-- also called blessings.
In an age where majority of human resources pre-judge people by their resumes; a Linchpin wants a job with freedom to give emotional labor & reward for being human and not a cog."Great jobs don't get filled by people emailing resumes." And the only way to prove you are not indispensable is to show not tell. Projects are the new resume. So in honor of this book that I am half way through- lets celebrate humanity by being authentic with each other and treating each of our interactions like art.
